The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) suspends nationwide protest, as all members have also been directed to resume work with immediate effect.

NLC had issued a directive to workers to commence the strike on Thursday being 27th September, 2018, following a cessation in negotiations with the Federal Government on the implementation of the new minimum wage.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja last Wednesday, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, had bemoaned that the congress couldn’t reach an agreement with the Federal Government delegation led the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

The strike led to a cessation of activities at offices, schools, railway stations and airports.

Nevertheless, NLC President announced the suspension at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday 30th September, 2018.

He said: "We invite you here today to inform you that we have received a firm and formal invitation to a reconvened meeting of the tripartite committee schelduled for 4th and 5th October 2018.

"We demanded that this shall be the final session of the committee assignment and that a formal report will then be submitted to Mr. President immediately .

"In order to avail the committee the necessary conducive environment to hold this crucial meeting and conclude its work, the organised labour has, after obtaining the mandates of the necessary organs, decided to suspend the ongoing warning strike with effect from today Sunday, 30th September, 2018."
